STUDENT DONATES TO IUCG

 

A level 300 student of the Religious Studies Department of the Islamic University College, Ghana has made a donation to the Institution. Mr. Ibrahim Frimpong Owusu, the donor presented the University College with fifteen (15) brand new refrigerators. He made this presentation at the school’s Conference Hall on Friday 4th June, 2021 in the presence of Management, Lecturers, the SRC executives and students.

Mr. Frimpong was exposed to a need staring lecturers in the face, due to his closeness with some lecturers whom he visited regularly. He saw at first hand the stress lecturers and administrators go through moving to and from the pantry to fetch water and sometimes outside the campus in search of “chilled” water. “Any time I paid a visit to a lecturer at their office, I am mostly sent to get them water. It continued for a while and I saw the inconvenience” he explained. “I thought this was a problem that needed solving hence, my wanting to provide the various offices with refrigerators to solve this problem”, he continued. He also used the platform to encourage his colleague students to give back to the school in ways they can.

Receiving the items on behalf of the University College was Dr. Gamel Nasser, the Vice President of the IUCG in charge of Academic Affairs. He expressed his profound gratitude to Mr. Frimpong and thanked members of staff who made it to the occasion. The Head of Department (HOD) for Religious Studies, Dr. Alhaji Hussein I. Ibrahim also iterated his excitement in seeing a student of his, thinking positively of those who are imparting knowledge on him. “The sky is the limit” were the HOD’s final words of encouragement to Mr. Frimpong in his closing remarks.

Some of the lecturer’s present also expressed their gratitude to Mr. Frimpong for the kind gesture. The SRC president, Mohammed Osman also spoke about the conducive atmosphere that exists within the IUCG community. He believed the cordial relationship between lecturers and students triggered such a noble gesture from Mr. Frimpong. He also prayed for increased mutual respect among senior and junior members of IUCG.

Goodman wins Best Institutional Speaker and 2nd Best Speaker at PUSAG debate.

Abdul Basit Goodman, a level 200 communication student of the Islamic University College, Ghana has been crowned Best Institutional speaker and 2nd Best Speaker at the just ended PUSAG debate championship held at Perez University, Winneba.

The event was held from 28th to 29th May, 2021. This was the maiden edition of the PUSAG Debate Championship. Congratulations to Abdul Basit for his spectacular performance. AYEKOO.

2021dedate1IUCG participates in PUSAG Debate Championship

The Islamic University College, Ghana participated in the maiden edition of the National PUSAG debate competition on the 28th and 29th of May, 2021. The debate was held as part of the activities marking the fourteenth (14th) Private Universities Students Association (PUSAG) congress hosted by Perez University College, Winneba.

The event was organized under the theme ‘The role of Private University Students in fixing our homeland Ghana post Covid-19’. Representing the University College (Team IUCG) were Abdul Basit Goodman, Sumaiya Numbo and Salamatu Musah Saeed. Team IUCG was pared in early stage against the team from Presbyterian University College. Both teams debated on the motion, “That religious bodies and personalities (I.e churches, mosques, and their leaders) should not be allowed to endorse, campaign or comment on political candidates in elections” with Team IUCG winning and breaking through to the semi-final.

In the semi-final round against the host institution, Perez University College, the motion was “That Twene Jonas should apologize to the Asantehene”. Team IUCG came short in this round and could not proceed to the final nonetheless, won some medals for the University College (Second Best Speaker and Best Institutional Speaker). Congratulations to Team IUCG for its astonishing performances throughout the competition.
