ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

 

The BSc. Nursing Programme at Islamic University College,Ghana is delivered in collaboration with the branch of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) — a globally recognized medical institution with extensive experience in training healthcare professionals and operating multiple teaching hospitals and research centers.

As part of its internationalization strategy, IUMS has expanded into West Africa, including Ghana, to train highly skilled nurses and strengthen healthcare systems through global academic partnerships.

This programme combines international standards with local clinical relevance, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for both Ghanaian and global healthcare environments.

settings. The programme is affiliated to the Iran University of Medical Sciences, which is among the top three universities of medical sciences in Iran. Plans are afoot to introduce BSc. Nursing and Midwifery programme in February 2025.

Admission Requirements for BSc Nursing

A. WASSCE Applicants
Applicants with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) must meet the following criteria:
1. Credit passes (A1–C6) in six subjects, including:
o Core subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science
o Three elective subjects: preferably in Science, General Arts, Home Economics, and Agric Science.
2. Minimum aggregate score: 36 or better.
3. Additional requirement: Credit in Integrated Science is mandatory for enrolment.
4. Applicants meeting these requirements enter the programme at Level 100.

B. SSSCE Applicants

Applicants with the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) must meet the following criteria:
1. Core subjects: Credit passes in English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
2. Elective subjects: Credit passes in three subjects, which may include Geography, Economics, Government, Integrated Religious Studies, or related subjects.
3. Minimum aggregate: A total score of 24 or better across the six subjects (three core and three electives).

4. Grade interpretation:
o A = 1 (Excellent)
o B = 2 (Very Good)
o C = 3 (Good)
o D = 4 (Credit)
5. Additional requirement: Credit in Integrated Science is mandatory for enrolment into the BSC Nursing Programme.

Mature applicants

  1. Mature applicants with a minimum age of 25 years, who do not necessarily satisfy the above standard requirements for admission but have reasonable educational background and 3 years working experience, or have demonstrated ability for academic work, can apply. Such applicants shall have to pass a University Entrance Examination in English (Essay, Comprehension, Grammar and Usage)
  1. Mathematics and General Paper (Quantitative Methods, Critical and Logical Thinking, and Current Affairs) and may be required to pass an interview. [Applications should include a copy each of birth certificate, letters showing first and current employment, and any other relevant examination results].
  2. Foreign students with qualifications equivalent to those in (a), (b), (c) and (d) above may be considered for admission. They must, however, show evidence of proficiency in English Language.

3. The Islamic University College admits a limited number of students who are already enrolled in other Universities. Such students transfer from their university to the Islamic University College to complete their course of study for a degree/diploma of the Islamic University A student transferring from one university to the Islamic University College should accumulate a minimum study period of 6 semesters as a full time student inthis university before he/she becomes eligible for graduation.
