The Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) has officially welcomed its newly admitted students during a matriculation ceremony held at the university’s auditorium. The event was marked by an address delivered by the Vice President Academic Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Hussein, who also administered the matriculation oath to the fresh students. Speaking on behalf of the Management Board, Dr. Hussein extended a warm welcome to the matriculants, faculty, and guests, noting that the president of IUCG, Dr. Hardi Kamal Ezzat, had travelled to Iran on urgent official business and could not attend the ceremony. In his address, Dr. Hussein reminded students that the rights and privileges they now enjoy as members of the IUCG community come with equally important responsibilities. He urged them to adhere strictly to the expectations outlined in the Student Handbook, including regular attendance to lectures and tutorials, timely submission of assignments and project work, consistent reading and research, as well as active participation in quizzes, tests, and examinations. “You even have responsibilities to yourselves, your parents, and your communities,” he stressed, advising students to maintain discipline and dedication in all aspects of their academic and personal lives. Dr. Hussein assured the students that they had made the right decision in choosing IUCG, emphasizing that the institution is distinguished by its commitment to both academic excellence and moral uprightness. “These are realizable only through commitment, dedication, hard work, and prayer,” he said. He further cautioned students not to become sources of disappointment to their families, reminding them that their journey through the university is both personal and transformative. b“You came alone; you will leave alone. At all times, keep reminding yourselves why you came here,” he advised. Highlighting the unique nature of the university, Dr. Hussein clarified, “This University College is an Islamic institution, not a Muslim institution,” noting that IUCG is home to students and staff from diverse religious backgrounds. He concluded his speech by thanking all senior members of staff and guests who made time to participate in the ceremony, commending their dedication to the development of the university.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of the new students, as they officially became part of the IUCG community.
